An inmate in the maximum security unit of the Saskatchewan Penitentiary has been transported to a hospital outside of the prison after an assault on Thursday. Correctional Service Canada says the assailant has been identified and appropriate actions have been taken. No staff or other inmates were injured.

Prince Albert RCMP and the Penitentiary are investigating the incident. A news release from Correctional Service Canada says a review of the circumstances will be done, with the aim of improving practices to prevent this type of incident.
