Earlier this year, the provincial government allocated almost $880,000 over three years to five second stage shelters as part of a three-year funding agreement, with two in Saskatoon, and one each in Regina, Melfort and La Ronge, and now funding is being added for two more initiatives in Regina and Prince Albert.
The additional $108,000 in operational funding over three years will support intervention and counselling services for women and their children leaving interpersonal violence and abuse.
A news release from the province explains that second stage housing provides safe, affordable, longer-term support, up to two years, which includes counselling, connections to education and employment and programs for the children.
The five shelters previously announced receiving funding are SOFIA House in Regina, Adelle house and YWCA Turning Points in Saskatoon, North East Outreach Support Services in Melfort and Sapohtewan House in La Ronge.
The two new additions are the Prince Albert Safe Shelter for Women and YWCA Regina.
