The City of Saskatoon has a new tool for homeowners which uses artificial intelligence to better understand their home’s energy use and ways to make improvement. The City’s manager of climate strategy and data, Amber Weckworth, explains that with the online residential energy map, all you have to do is put in your address and you can compare the results with others of the same size, age and type. At this point, this is for single family homes only, but you can still go online and check the scores for different neighbourhoods.
Weckworth stresses that no personal information is used. The data is based on averages considering things like the size of home and the year it was constructed. If you want to go further, you have to option to create an account and provide additional information, including any energy upgrades that have already been done, for a more accurate energy score. The tool also provides a set of personalized recommendations to account holders for renovations to reduce overall energy consumption.
