A Cumberland House man appeared in Melfort Provincial Court Thursday to face multiple charges following a robbery on the Red Earth Cree Nation.
Twenty-six-year-old Austin McGillivray of Cumberland House is charged with robbery, aggravated assault, flight from peace officer, resist-obstruct peace officer, operation of a conveyance while impaired, operation of a conveyance while prohibited and two counts of theft of credit card. At about 12:50 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Carrot River R-C-M-P responded to a report of an adult male assaulting a victim and stealing their vehicle on Red Earth Cree Nation. The investigation determined that the stolen vehicle was heading towards Cumberland House on Highway 123. Officers from Cumberland House R-C-M-P attempted a traffic stop that failed, but were able to successfully deploy a tire deflation device to disable the stolen truck. Officers were able to arrest the man a short distance later as he attempted to flee on foot. The robbery victim was taken to hospital with injuries described as serious.
