It was promised in the Throne Speech and has now been passed in the Legislature. The Government of Saskatchewan passed The Saskatchewan Remembrance Observance Act to ensure employees are able to wear a poppy recognized by the Royal Canadian Legion in the workplace if they choose, unless it poses a danger to health, safety or welfare of the worker or others. The legislation comes into force immediately.
A news release from the province says it provides all provincially regulated workers with the right to wear a poppy recognized by the Royal Canadian Legion in the workplace from November 1st to 11th each year. Federally regulated entities such as banks, telecommunications and inter-provincial transportation are not covered under this legislation. Ontario and Manitoba have also enacted similar legislation.
