The province has announced $20 million in one-time funding for community-based fee-for-service family physicians. A news release from the Saskatchewan Government says this is transitional funding to build capacity for physicians to eventually adopt a new physician payment model which would include a base payment for a standard set of services and additional fee-for-service payments for extra services outside of that defined set of standard services.
Health Minister Everett Hindley says, “We are in a competitive environment with other jurisdictions to attract and retain family physicians and this funding will help our efforts to keep our doctors here.”
Physicians can apply for stabilization funding up to $40,000 each. They will have to declare their intent to remain in Saskatchewan until the new physician agreement is ratified. Full-time and part-time fee-for-service family physicians are eligible to apply.
