Operation Red Nose is back in Saskatchewan for its 15th year, where those who are celebrating during the holiday season have another option to get home safely. When you contact Operation Red Nose on select nights from November 24th to December 31st, a volunteer team will pick you up and drive you and your vehicle back home for free, with donations welcomed.
Megan Olson is the President of Saskatoon Millennium Lions Club, host organization for the local campaign. She urges people looking for a new adventure to volunteer, saying it is safe and you will meet lots of new people. Olson says, “You get some great stories and you don’t have any issues, which is what some volunteers are concerned about. The people who are calling us are responsible and trying to make a good choice, so you are going to have a fun evening and talk with lots of people.”
Deputy Chief of the Saskatoon Police Service, Cam McBride, says the police force and the community has seen the affects of impaired driving for far too long, although positive strides are being made. He urges everyone to find a safe ride home, “so that words like tragedy no longer become synonymous with the holiday season.”
SGI continues to be a partner with Operation Red Nose, as it has since the program began in Saskatchewan. Proceeds from the donations go to Ronald McDonald House and the Saskatoon Lions Speed Skating Club.
