Donations from the radiothon will go to the PICU or Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for things like pediatric transports for children living in rural and remote communities. Ashlyn Paul says in May her daughter Rustyn began experiencing breathing difficulties. They consulted their family doctor, who suspected asthma and conducted tests. However, an unexpected discovery was made when an X-ray revealed a mass on Rustyn’s lung. She says her daughter was airlifted to Saskatoon.
Ashlyn says it was about three weeks into treatment before she could actually tell her daughter it was cancer that they were dealing with. She said the level of care at PICU is and was unbelievable. As parents they were made to feel part of the team and involved in every decision with everything explained incredibly well. She describes the hospital as a gift and says with two other young children at home they don’t know how they would have managed without the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon.
All funds raised in the radiothon will go to PICU which will also assist in acquiring cutting-edge technology and training for how to use it in addition to specialist care using virtual robotics so children don’t have to leave home.
