Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes say they are still on the hunt for a suspect wanted in connection to the homicide of 42-year-old Randy Halkett of Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

Meanwhile police investigation has led to the arrest of three other suspects: 24-year-old Garrett McDonnell, 35-year-old John McDonnell and 28-year-old Jared Gale, all of Lac La Ronge Indian Band and all are charged with one count, manslaughter.

RCMP Major Crimes continues to investigate, and an increased police presence will continue in the community. Local community schools/health center may have initiated their own safety protocols in response to this incident.

John McDonnell has not been located and there is a warrant for his arrest. He is described as being 5’10” tall, 221 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He may be in the communities of La Ronge and surrounding areas. If you see John McDonnell, do not approach him and contact police immediately by calling 911.

Prince Albert WEST and Prince Albert/Meadow Lake/La Ronge Crime Reduction Team provided assistance with locating and arresting Garrett McDonnell and Jared Gale on November 8, 2023, less than 24 hours after the initial report was received.
