Prior to budget deliberations beginning on November 28th, the City of Saskatoon has released the last set of 2024-2025 preliminary budget documents.
The first document, the Detailed Operating and Capital Summary Budget, was released on November 9th. The second document, the Preliminary Capital Budget Project Details, and the third document, the Preliminary Budget Introduction and the Climate Budget were unveiled on Monday.
The proposed 2024 operating budget includes total operating expenditures of $628.5 million, which is $35.9 million over the 2023 Operating Budget. Further, the proposed 2025 operating budget estimates total operating expenditures at $657 million, $28.4 million higher than 2024.
The Capital Budget provides a total capital investment of $785.1 million between 2024 and 2025.
According to the Climate Budget, if all funded and unfunded projects with quantified Green House Gas reductions are implemented in 2024/25, the City could achieve 10,100 tonnes CO2e reductions. However, additional projects reducing a total 191,400 tonnes of CO2e would need to be identified and funded to meet the 2025 target as modeled by the Low Emissions Community Plan.
