So far, 23 people have requested to speak at Saskatoon City Council regarding the Government of Saskatchewan’s request for council to issue a development permit for 1701 Idylwyld Drive North. The site is the former government owned liquor store and the development permit would allow the government to create an Emergency Residential Shelter for up to 18 months.
City Administration is recommending that council approve the request. The Government of Saskatchewan has asked the City of Saskatoon to locate two sites for the new emergency shelter spaces. There is no indication on the city’s website if the Idylwyld Drive North is one of the City of Saskatoon’s suggestions.
The Government of Saskatchewan is investing in new funding over the next two years to create 15 new complex needs shelter spaces and 60 new emergency shelter spaces in Saskatoon. At a recent Governance and Priorities Committee meeting, which is populated by all members of City Council, they stressed that when the two new emergency shelter locations for Saskatoon are chosen, there will be public meetings to clarify any questions residents may have.
