After winning 14 games without a loss when leading after two periods this season, the Saskatoon Blades let a lead after 40 minutes get away Tuesday evening as the home-standing Wenatchee Wild scored three unanswered goals in the third frame for a 4-2 victory.
The Bridge City Bunch opened the scoring in their first-ever visit to the Central Washington State city and first-ever game against the Wild when defenceman Charlie Wright scored. But, the Wild responded 18 seconds later when Matthew Savoie tallied. Despite out-shooting Wenatchee 18-12 in the first period, the Blue and Gold were held to a 1-1 ,tie because of the goaltending of the Wild’s Brendan Gee. Misha Volotovskii notched a short-handed goal for the Blades in the second period, giving Saskatoon a 2-1 lead heading to the third frame where it appeared the Bridge City Bunch seemed to have an advantage as it was their first game since Saturday while Wenatchee were playing their fifth game in seven nights. But, Jonas Woo tied the game 93 seconds into the third period, Evan Friesen gave Wenatchee their first lead less than four minutes later and Connor Geekie insured the result with an empty-net tally. The 15-8-2 Wild ended up out-shooting the 15-7-0 Bridge City Bunch 36-32, 24-14 over the final 40 minutes as the former Winnipeg ICE franchise continued to command the rivalry against the Blue and Gold.
