The Saskatoon Blades recorded their first win on their season-longest road trip Friday, slipping past the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-1 in Kent, Washington.
Lukas Hansen (pictured) scored the winning goal with 68 seconds left in the third period as the Bridge City Bunch are 1-2-0 on the swing, 16-8-0 overall for the season and won for the first time on the road over Seattle since December 30, 2009. Brandon Lisowsky gave the Blue and Gold a 1-0 lead – something they have done in all three games on the trip. That lead held up for about 33 minutes until the Thunderbirds tied it up early in the third period – setting the stage for Hansen’s winner. Egor Sidorov added an empty net goal in the dying seconds. The goaltenders weren’t over-worked, but were strong as Evan Gardner stopped 18 shots while Scott Ratzlaff blocked 19 for Seattle as the Blades out-shot the T-Birds 22-19. Saskatoon resumes their swing Saturday evening with their first visit in four years to Portland to play the Winterhawks. Game time is 8 o’clock with CJWW’s broadcast beginning with the Palliser Rooms E-Q-3 Cutting Edge Pre-Game Show at 7:45 p.m. Following are the audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast, Les Lazaruk’s Post-Game Show interview with head coach Brennan Sonne and the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
