As the weather continues to sporadically warm and cool, ice conditions are constantly changing, so the Fire Department is urging residence to exercise caution around the river, storm ponds and any other bodies of water.
A news release from the Fire Department states that water may appear frozen, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe.
It’s never safe to walk on the river’s ice, so keep your distance from the river’s edge.
The Fire Department monitors ice thickness at storm water retention ponds to verify their safety for recreational use.
Currently none have reached the minimum thickness of at least eight inches.
