For the third time in eight years, Wanuskewin Heritage Park has been selected as the top Indigenous Tourism Destination in the country by the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada.
The Association has over 1900 unique business memberships across the country.
Along with this year’s award, Wanuskewin also won in 2016 and 2019.
Wanuskewin’s CEO, Darlene Brander considers this recognition a victory for the province, because the park has been part of the Saskatchewan story for over 31 years.
She says, “This beautiful place is for all peoples to come and share in appreciation and celebration of Northern Plains Indigenous cultures, as it has been for over 6400 years.”
Wanuskewin was also a finalist in the category of Culinary Event of the Year, nominated for the Han Wi Moon Dinner, which is a series of dinner held in August which feature three course meals foraged from the land and served on an ancient bison jump.
