A 52-year-old man is in custody in connection to domestic violence assault and an evade police incident, which resulted in a collision involving a police cruiser and a police side arm being discharged.
At 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, Saskatoon Police received a report of domestic violence at a home in the 2400 block of Melrose Avenue. Upon arrival, police say the suspect was seen fleeing the scene in a Dodge Ram truck.
Officers then located the vehicle in the area of 11th Street West and Circle Drive which is when, police say, the suspect began to evade officers. Attempts at deploying tire deflation devices were not successful.
The truck was then spotted travelling eastbound on Fairlight Drive where a crash occurred involving the police cruiser and the truck. The collision pinned a patrol officer in the passenger side of the cruiser, and the officer who was driving exited the vehicle as the suspect began to operate his truck again.
The officer fired a sidearm at the truck’s tires, causing it to come to a stop in a parking lot in the 300 block of Clancy Drive a short time later.
While attempting to locate the suspect vehicle, two other patrol vehicles were travelling on 11th Street West, along the train tracks. A collision occurred involving both police cruisers, resulting in minor injuries to two patrol officers.
