Anyone who has ever been fleeced by someone contracted to do work on your home and they skipped town with your cash, but no work done, will take heart from this story.
Regina Police first received a report of fraud on June 14th, 2022, that involved a local contractor who was hired to complete some home repairs in 2021. Police say the contractor provided an estimate of work and requested a deposit payment from the victim. Upon receiving the payment, the contractor failed to complete the home repairs and did not return the deposit payment to the victim.
Between June 2022 and December 2023, police received 48 similar reports involving the same contractor. The incidents occurred between April 2021 and June 2022 and the total reported loss to the victims was over $258,000.
Last Wednesday members of the Financial Crimes Unit made an arrest in relation to the investigation. Forty-three-year-old Joseph Alan Myers of Estlin, Saskatchewan, is charged with Fraud Over $5000.
