Chanukah began Thursday night, but the eight-day Festival of Lights continues and Tuesday evening in Saskatoon, there will be a public gathering for the menorah lighting at the River Landing amphitheater. It begins at 6 p.m. and Rabbi Raphael Kats from the Chabad Jewish Centre of Saskatoon invites everyone to join in.
He says he understands that with the war in Gaza and the rise in anti-Semitism, many Jewish people have the instinct to shy away and hide their Jewishness, but instead he encourages the Jewish community to come out full force tonight to celebrate Chanukah.
The Chabad Jewish Centre has contacted the police to let them know about the public menorah lighting. Rabbit Kats says there will be a police presence for public safety. This is the 13th year for this event in Saskatoon.
