The President and CEO of Cameco says their success wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of their employees and the support of Saskatchewan people. Tim Gitzel says that’s why Cameco is providing more than $1.8 million in funding for numerous community organizations in the province.
Some of that money comes directly from employees. Gitzel says the funding includes more than $700,000 raised through the Cameco Employee Giving Campaign where their 300 employees direct their donations to a charity of their choice with a matching donation from Cameco. The campaign is administered by the Saskatoon Community Foundation.
Another $700,000 was raised through the annual Cameco Step Up for Mental Health run/walk held in September. There were nearly 7,000 participants and 100 per cent of the registration fees were matched by Cameco and used to fund grants awarded to 24 mental health projects in the province.
Another $250,000 goes to the YWCA to support the expansion of its women’s shelter and $150,000 is for the Meewasin Valley Authority’s More Than a Trail campaign. Cameco has been operating in Saskatchewan for 35 years.
