Moose Jaw’s recent Santa Claus Parade had a not-so-merry incident included in the festivities. Shortly before 6 p.m. on the evening of December 3, a 45-year-old man was struck by a vehicle on the 100 block of High Street West during the parade.
The Moose Jaw Police Service learned that the driver of the vehicle attempted to illegally turn east from a local business, onto High Street West, which was closed in both directions for the parade.
The victim was a parade volunteer and was wearing a high-visibility jacket. He attempted to stop the motorist from completing their turn, only to be struck by the vehicle, running over his left leg. The victim was transported to the hospital and suffered extensive injuries to his left leg.
The motorist has been charged with disobeying a traffic control device, an illegal left turn, driving without due care and attention and failing to obey the direction of a flag person.
