Prince Albert Police Service kicked off the weekend with a High Visibility Check Stop in the 100 block of River Street West where officers pulled over a vehicle for mandatory alcohol screening but discovered the vehicle was reported stolen. The two men inside were quickly arrested, and police say a search of the vehicle uncovered open alcohol and a sawed-off shotgun and notably, the male passenger was found wearing body armor. Both men, aged 23 and 25, are in court on a variety of weapons charges Monday while the 23-year-old is also facing Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000, Breach of Release Order and driving without a license.
In all the Prince Albert Police Service attended 302 calls for service which included a robbery report shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday morning in the 200 block of 20th Street East where two people inside a vehicle were approached by two males who knocked on the window and brandished a firearm. The victims quickly drove off and provided the police with a detailed description of the suspects including their last known direction of travel. Simultaneously, an individual unrelated to the first robbery call flagged down the officers, reporting that he had just been the target of an attempted robbery by males of the same description using a gun and laser pointer. The police canine unit tracked suspects to the 400 block of 19th Street East where a 16-year-old male suspect was arrested, as well, a modified firearm, equipped with a laser pointer, was recovered by the police. The teen is facing robbery and weapons offences in court Monday and police are on the lookout for a second suspect. In total 24 people were arrested on the weekend.
