The Official Opposition Health Critic says obstetrical services in the province continue to have major disruptions. Vicki Mowat suggests the government isn’t being completely honest about the health plan in the province. She says, despite the fact that the Sask Party is saying their health plan is working, the statistics show otherwise.
Earlier this month, the NDP released new Saskatchewan Health Authority data indicating that 2023 was the worst year in the last half decade for obstetrical care closures. At the same time, it was announced earlier this month that mother-child services would be closed again in Meadow Lake over the holiday season. Mowat says, “Mothers in labour should not have to drive from town to town looking for a doctor in the dead of winter.”
The NDP Health Critic believes that local communities need to have a voice in recruitment and retention, and that healthcare workers should also be consulted as advocates for what is needed in their fields of expertise. (swiftcurrentonline)
