BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders are being recalled due to fire and laceration hazards. The company reported that 117,286 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and about 4.8 million were sold in the United States.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled blenders and contact BlendJet for free replacement product. The recalled blenders can overheat or catch fire, and the blender blades can break off, posing fire and laceration hazards to consumers.
As of December 14, 2023, the company has received one report of fire and approximately 10 reports of metal blades breaking in Canada. No injuries have been reported. Outside of Canada, the company has received approximately 319 reports of the blades breaking while in use, and an additional 16 reports of overheating or fires, resulting in property damage claims of approximately $150,000. Injuries include reports of approximately 49 minor burns and one minor laceration.
This recall involves BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders sold in in a variety of colours and designs. Serial numbers are printed on the bottom of the base along with “blendjet2” and “The Original Portable Blender”. The blenders measure approximately 24 cm (9.5 inches) in height and 8 cm (3 inches wide) and weigh approximately 1.5 pounds.
Units where the first 4 digits of the serial number are between 5201-5542 and are subject to the recall must be identified through the use of the “Is my BlendJet 2 Recalled?” tool located at www.blendjet.com/safetyandrecall.
