Call it a late Christmas gift or an end of 2023 present, but the Saskatoon Blades re-enforced the notion that they are “all-in” when it comes to winning the franchise’s first-ever W-H-L championship late Sunday afternoon, adding more firepower to their line-up with the acquisition of 19-year-old Russian forward Alexander Suzdalev (pictured) from Regina.
In addition to the Washington Capitals prospect, the Bridge City Bunch get a 2025 WHL Prospects Draft sixth-round pick for 17-year-old rookie forward Zach Moore, 18-year-old Slovakian defenceman Samuel Barcik, the rights to 16-year-old defender Dayton Deschamps, a 2025 fourth-round pick and a first and third-round pick in the 2026 draft. A 38-goal, 86-point performer last season with Regina, who added three goals amongst 10 points in seven playoff games against Saskatoon last April, Suzdalev will join the Blue and Gold next week. He won’t be in the Blades’ line-up Monday when Saskatoon hosts Brandon at SaskTel Centre. CJWW’s broadcast starts at 3:45 p.m. with the Palliser Rooms E-Q-3 Cutting Edge Pre-Game Show and the play-by-play at 4 o’clock. Following is Les Lazaruk’s complete interview with Blades’ President and General Manager Colin Priestner on the trade, plus the news release from the Blades…..
