It took three days to completely extinguish the fire at a scrapyard north of Regina. Regina Fire & Protective Services responded to the blaze around 1 in the afternoon last Thursday and operations concluded at Wheat City Metals around 3 Sunday afternoon. Crews had the fire under control by late Thursday afternoon.
The RFPS says crews fully extinguished it by removing the fire load, which meant continuously pouring water while heavy equipment spread out the pile, enabling firefighters to reach the seat of the fire. The investigation has been handed over to the RM of Sherwood.
