Central Saskatchewan will receive its largest snowfall of the winter, beginning this afternoon and continuing through Wednesday morning. Justin Shelley is a meteorologist with Environment Canada and he says portions of central Saskatchewan will receive between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow.
Snowfall warnings are in effect for central Saskatchewan stretching from the Alberta border through North Battleford and Kindersley, across to Saskatoon and Prince Albert and east to Melfort, Tisdale and Nipawin. Shelly says it appears the largest snowfall amounts will be in the Saskatoon, North Battleford, and Kindersley regions.
After the snow departs the bone-chilling temperatures will move in. Shelly says it will get colder as the week progresses with daytime highs in the mid-minus 20’s Thursday and Friday. In addition to the snow, there will be a gusty wind causing significant wind chills and blowing snow.
Shelly says warmer conditions will likely return early next week but one weather model shows a continuation of the well below normal temperature.
