With up to 15 centimetres of snow expected, the City of Saskatoon says road crews and contractors are prepared. Because of the possibility of heavy snow and blowing snow reducing visibility, the City advises drivers to adjust driving to the road conditions and leave extra room in case you need to stop suddenly and watch for the blue and yellow flashing lights on road equipment.
During the snowfall, City crews will plow Circle Drive and expressways to minimize accumulation and maintain mobility and safety. Sanders will apply de-icing material as required, beginning with Circle Drive and other high speed and high traffic areas. When the snow is done, if the amount is more than 5 centimeters, a snow event will be declared and contractors will join City crews to grade along all priority streets.
The City’s website says after a snow event is declared, the goal is to have all the major roads plowed within 12 hours of the snow ending. The arterials with double lanes and Saskatoon Transit routes will be graded within 36 hours and then collector streets, the remaining Business Improvement District streets and school zones will be completed within 72 hours. City facility sidewalks, Meewasin Trail, park pathways with street lighting, pathways along freeways and arterials and bridge/overpass walkways are graded within 48 hours.
