Paramedics with Medavie Health Services had a busy year in 2019 responding to a total of 31,440 calls.
That’s well above the average over the last two years according to Director of Public Affairs, Troy Davies.
In 2017, paramedics responded to 30,883 incidents while in 2018, MHS responded to 30,845 calls. Davies credits the record year to a growing population, a rising number of overdose calls and an aging population.
“We have seen the population of Saskatoon increase even in the last 10 years, I think we’re close to 50 thousand people and when you add in other cities that we respond to with Warman, Martensville and Osler and other communities around the city as well, you know we just see an increase of population, our call volume is steadily rising.”
Davies say they’ll continue to work with other key stakeholders to address situations that they’re seeing and work in different capacities.
Throughout 2019, Medavie Health Services also assessed 20,183 police detainees.
