Saskatchewan has one of the highest rates of job vacancies in Canada, according to a TD Economics report. The CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, Prabha Ramaswamy explains that the high commodity prices have boosted economic growth in Saskatchewan.
There are more jobs and not enough people, however Ramaswamy notes that the provincial government has indicated they are working on some initiatives for recruitment and retention of workers. The highest vacancy rates are in the construction, healthcare, accommodations and food services, and retail sectors.
The Saskatchewan Chamber CEO says one of the big challenges in Saskatchewan, in the country and globally is the need for more skilled labour.
