It was only Game 47 of the regular-season, but it was a classic and a beauty as the Saskatoon Blades out-lasted the Swift Current Broncos 3-2 in overtime before 3,919 fans Sunday at SaskTel Centre.
Fraser Minten (pictured) provided a potential “goal of the year” candidate in the W-H-L when he skated end-to-end, deking all three Swifty skaters plus goaltender Reid Dyck to score the game-winning tally at 2:18 of extra time. It was the second goal of the game for the 2022, second round draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Easton Armstrong notched a power play goal for the Bridge City Bunch, now 33-9-5 for the season while Conor Geekie, an Arizona first round selection in 2022, notched both goals for the Broncos, now 22-18-5. The Blue and Gold out-shot Swift Current 34-22 as they took five of a possible six points from a three games-in-three days weekend, beating a rested Broncos’ team in the process. Prior to Sunday, Swifty last played on January 20. The Blades have picked up points in the standings in five straight games, 4-0-1, as they prepare to play the third game of their season-longest seven-game homestand on Wednesday when the Regina Pats pay their final visit of the season to SaskTel Centre. Following is the official game summary courtesy the W-H-L, audio highlights from CJWW’s broadcast plus Post-Game Show comments from Minten, head coach Brennan Sonne and Saskatoon captain Trevor Wong…..
