The Lac La Ronge Indian Band has announced the passing of a respected Elder and former council member. Thomas “Thompson” Leonard Mirasty died on January 25th in Big River at the age of 74.
The LLRIB’s Chief and Council extend heartfelt condolences to the Mirasty family and all those in the community of Little Red River who knew him. A news release from the LLRIB executive office says Elder Mirasty exemplified strong leadership, guiding numerous committees and boards and he was a cornerstone of the community. He served as both a Band Councillor and a member of the Council of Elders, representing Little Red River Reserve.
The news release says he was devoted husband to Sharon, his wife of 53 years, a loving father to their eight children, and a proud grandfather to 47 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and his family life mirrored the warmth and commitment he brought to his roles within the community.
