An agreement has been signed between SaskPower and GE Hitachi to advance Saskatchewan’s first Small Modular Reactor project. President and CEO of the Crown Corporation, Rupen Pandya, says this means they will be able to access critical technical and engineering information about the SMR that GE Hitachi provides.
SaskPower chose the GE Hitachi BWRX-300 back in June of 2022. Ontario Power Generation has also chosen this model for its Darlington New Nuclear Project. SaskPower is exploring a range of low or no emissions power source options, including nuclear power from small modular reactors (SMRs).
