A man has been arrested in connection to a multi-provincial homicide investigation which began almost 17 years ago. Manitoba RCMP say 24-year-old Crystal Saunders, a Metis woman, went missing from Winnipeg and was found dead near St. Ambroise, Manitoba a day later. She had last been seen on the evening of April 18th, 2007, and her body was found the next morning by an off-duty RCMP officer who was checking his trapline in the area.
Police say DNA was collected and due to advancements in technology around 2014, there was a hit on the National Databank and Kevin Charles Queau’s name came up. Last Saturday, investigators arrested him in Vancouver. He is charged with 2nd degree murder.
It was a long-term, complex investigation that spanned western Canada. Queau is originally from Winnipeg, but he also frequented other areas including Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C.
The RCMP is asking anyone who may have additional information on this matter, or any other matters related to Queau to call the police. Superintendent Rob Lasso, Officer in Charge of Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services, says “We will be in further contact with other RCMP divisions and police agencies across Canada in order to determine if there are any additional linkages or connections to other unsolved crimes.”
