RCMP are calling it a “homicide cluster”.
There were three homicides in our province over a 29-hour period between last Thursday afternoon and Friday night.
Unfortunately, this is not an abnormality. RCMP Superintendent Joshua Graham says last year, there were five separate occasions when there were two to three homicides in a two-day period.
The deaths occurred at Deschambault Lake, North Battleford and on the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation near Loon Lake. Charges have been laid in only one of those incidents at Deschambault Lake.
Superintendent Graham says clusters of homicides stretch RMCP resources and take investigators away from existing and historical homicide investigations. He also notes the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes has not added resources since 2018.
