The City of Saskatoon’s Manager of Recreation Facilities and Programs, Jody Hauta says the four month closure of the Saskatoon Field House impacted the overall attendance for 2019 at the City’s seven leisure centres.
He says leisure centres saw a slight decrease in numbers compared to the previous year.
When looking ahead at 2020, Hauta says there will be brief closure at the Field House to re-paint the lines on the new flooring that was installed over the summer.
Closures at the other leisure facilities in 2020 will be for regular repair and maintenance.
Both the Lawson Civic Centre and the Lakewood Civic Centre will be closed for a three week period for clean-up and regular maintenance.
The Shaw Centre will see a temporary closure of the 50 metre pool as some of the flooring tiles need to be replaced.
The new upgrades at the Saskatoon Field House saw the addition of a new track installed along with a new kiosk, flooring and automatic doors.
Hauta says the Field House is a popular facility for Saskatoon residents and that the four month period took out a large part of the season for those who utilize the facility on a regular basis, thus resulting in a lower attendance at the leisure centres.
