The Regina Police Service has issued a Public Safety Alert over Fentanyl and Carfentanil which police say present a heightened risk of overdose and death.
They urge the public to learn the signs of a possible overdose which includes difficulty in walking/talking/staying awake; blue lips or nails; small pupils; cold and clammy skin; dizziness and confusion; extreme drowsiness; choking, gurgling or snoring sounds; slow, weak or no breathing; and inability to wake up.
Regina Police suggest the general public could carry and know how to properly use Naloxone (Narcan). They urge addicts to not use drugs alone and everyone needs to understand the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act. This act protects those experiencing a drug overdose or anyone present during an overdose from charges or possession of a controlled substance when they call 9-1-1 for help.
Anyone who suspects an overdose is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
