The provincial government is helping to finance the development of open textbooks and other open education resources for students. The quarter of a million dollars will be provided to professors and instructors at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, USask, and the University of Regina. The government thinks it will save current and future students at least $6.4 million with the resources developed so far. Over the past five years, the province has given $1.25 million towards the development of open textbooks which is believe to be helping reduce the costs for about 70 thousand students.
