Teachers in southern Saskatchewan including Regina, Moose Jaw, Gravelbourg, Estevan Weyburn, and their supporters, numbering 3,500 took to their rotating strike to the Legislature today (Monday).
Today is the first day of the spring session of the Legislature. Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation President Samantha Becotte says the level of support they have witnessed is a sign that Saskatchewan people share the teachers’ goal. She says, “we are supported and we are not backing down.”
The STF says if government does not provide their bargaining committee a new mandate to bargain on issues such as class size and complexity, teachers will be withdrawing all extracurricular supports Tuesday and Wednesday.
Striking teachers unable to safely travel to Regina today due to inclement weather are taking part in alternative advocacy actions, including calling and emailing government to highlight the concerns of teachers.
