A Monday afternoon news release from Saskatoon Public Schools (SPS) says classes at all elementary and secondary SPS will resume Tuesday, but with some notable wrinkles.
There will be no bus or taxi services available to transport students to or from schools Tuesday as the city’s road conditions from the weekend “snow event” are still impacting bus routes. While facilities staff are clearing sidewalks and entrances of snow to all schools, SPS is advising families to be cautious when dropping off or picking up students from school because of large snowbanks that can make visibility of students to nearby traffic difficult at crosswalks and intersections. Plus, SPS reminds students and their families that, because of Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation job action Tuesday and Wednesday, all extra-curricular activities for those two days are cancelled.
Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools says classes resume on Tuesday, however, all the GSCS-provided student transportation in Saskatoon, both buses and taxis, will be cancelled. This includes buses from Warman to Martensville, and service from Martensville and Warman to Bishop James Mahoney High School. Bus services by Horizon and Sun West School Divisions are running, but bus services by Prairie Spirit are not.
The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation announced job action last week where teachers across the province won’t be taking part in extracurricular activities tomorrow (Tues) and Wednesday. It means the withdrawal of all voluntary services involved in the organization, supervision and facilitation of activities, including athletics, non-curricular arts, clubs, field trips, student travel and graduation preparations.
As well, on Tuesday, the STF won’t be doing any noon-hour supervision in the Chinook, Horizon, Northern Lights, Northwest, Prairie Spirit, Prairie Valley, Sun West, Saskatchewan Rivers and Prince Albert Catholic School Divisions.
