Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for west central Saskatchewan.
A low pressure system is crossing the prairies, bring snow and blowing snow with it and by the time it’s all said and done in the areas with the snowfall warning, 10 to 15 centimetres will have fallen. That could make travel difficult because the blowing snow will reduce visibility on the roads.
Further east and south, Regina and Moose Jaw are forecast to get about 5 centimetres of snow with gusty winds, meaning blowing snow. Check the Highway Hotline before heading out by going to the news link on the top of the cjwwradio.com web page and clicking on Highway Hotline.
The City of Saskatoon says snow crews are prepared and it begins with applying pre-wet sand and salt for traction ahead of the snow, and then plows will be out in full force, keeping Circle Drive and other priority streets clear. Additional contractor equipment is standing by if needed. The City reminds drivers to keep back when you see blue and amber flashing lights to let road equipment complete their pass.
The snowfall warning applies to Lloydminster, Saskatoon, Martensville, Warman, Rosthern, Delisle, Wakaw, Melfort, Tisdale, Nipawin, Carrot River, Prince Albert, Shellbrook, Spiritwood, Duck Lake, The Battlefords, Unity, Maidstone and St. Walburg. There is an extreme cold warning in place for Wollaston Lake, Collins Bay, Fond-du-Lac, Stony Rapids, Creek Lake and Key Lake.
