Monday was the first day of Ramadan and it is expected to end on the evening of April 9th. The holy month for Muslims can last 29 or 30 days, depending on the appearance of the crescent moon. If Ramadan ends on April 9th, then the next day will be the first day of Eid.
Sask Culture’s website says during Ramadan, healthy adult Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. Other acts of worship, such as prayer, reading the Quran and charity are encouraged during the holy month. Muslims believe that Ramadan is the month when the first verses of the holy book Quran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad more than 1,400 years ago.
