On day one of the annual convention for Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities several rural related initiatives were announced by the government including more doctors having been recruited to rural communities.
The government says 14 new doctors are now practicing with plans to further increase the number of training seats that the Saskatchewan International Physician Practice Assessment program offers. The number of training seats was already expanded from 36 to 45. The Rural Physician Incentive Program also offers up to $200,000 over five years to help recruit physicians.
Fourteen physicians have been recruited in 13 communities including Kindersley, Kelvington, Canora, Meadowlake and two physicians in Rosthern.
