As spring cleaning time approaches, the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation is reminding people that they’re accepting donations of unwanted hunting and fishing equipment.
Darren Newberry, SWF Director of Habitat Lands, says the program is called the Guns and Antlers for Habitat Initiative. The SWF collects used hunting and fishing equipment, raffling it off, and using the profits to purchase wildlife habitats in the province.
“They can turn in all their non-restricted firearms, antler sheds, antler cutoffs, we accept all hunting and fishing equipment, decoys, anything that can be used in the outdoors,” Newberry states.
Over the last 20 years, this program has raised over $300,000 to purchase critical wildlife habitat, and matching programs have doubled the impact.
Newberry says donors will be rewarded for their good deed, as well.
“For their donation, they get a tax receipt for the value of what the firearm or antlers sold for. It’s beneficial for them too, that they can get a charitable tax receipt for their kind donation.”
He says people wishing to donate can give them a call, and arrangements can be made for the donations to be either picked up or dropped off at the SWF building in Moose Jaw.
