Prior to Good Friday which begins the Easter Long Weekend and the school spring break, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation has given notice of a province-wide withdrawal of extracurricular activities Monday through Thursday and teachers won’t be doing noon hour supervision on Monday at eight different school divisions. They are Holy Family Catholic, Holy Trinity Catholic, North East, Prairie Spirit, Saskatchewan Rivers, Prince Albert Catholic, Living Sky and Light of Christ Catholic school divisions and Sakewew High School in North Battleford.
President of the STF, Samantha Becotte, stresses that extracurricular activities and noon hour supervision are voluntary for teachers. It is not part of their contracted professional duties. Becotte says that teachers remain steadfast in their call for sustainable funding for Prekindergarten to Grade 12 education.
