As of May 1st, the City of Saskatoon will start accepting applications for its Home Energy Loan Program (HELP). Thirty to 50 new applicants will be accepted.
The program provides low interest loans to single family homeowners for energy efficiency upgrades as well as installing renewable energy so you could replace windows, doors or heating and cooling equipment or even install solar panels.
The loans are repayable through property taxes. Homeowners are eligible for loans between $1,000 – $60,000, with flexible repayment terms of 5, 10, or 20 years. The loans are tied to the property not the person.
It can also be used for adding insulation to basements, attics, and wall, as well as replacing toilets and faucets to low-flow options.
Since the program was launched the City of Saskatoon says 105 homes have been upgraded.
