Lumsden RCMP issued an advisory Sunday afternoon regarding a large fire in a rural area near the landfill in Regina Beach. Motorists were asked to avoid the area; local road closures were in place and anyone driving through smoke was reminded to turn their headlights on.
Hordos Insurance Brokers in Regina Beach said on social media that the grass fire showed true sense of community thanking the Regina Beach Fire Department, Lumsden Fire Department, Bethune Fire Department, Arm River Colony, as well as local septic businesses, and local excavation businesses, the Town of Regina Beach, RM of Lumsden and the numerous residents from the community and surrounding areas who contributed equipment, shovels, and buckets to combat the fire.
This morning there are five wildfires burning in Saskatchewan and only one is contained. There have been 28 so far this year and 8 is the five-year average. The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency map shows wildfires burning about halfway between Prince Albert and Batoche, south of Smeaton, south of Waterhen Lake and west of Cumberland House.
