Saturday evening Saskatoon Police tried to pull over a vehicle near Boychuck Drive and Briarwood Road but it refused to stop and sped off. This was around 7:20 p.m. and ground officers disengaged due to high rate of speed and the Air Support Unit took over following the vehicle to the north side of the city on Attridge Drive near Forest Driver where officers successfully deployed a tire deflation device. The vehicle lost control, hit the centre median and a suspect was arrested.
Police say they located two firearms in the vehicle and a 28-year-old man from Winnipeg has been charged with evading police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, and breaching court ordered conditions.
The ASU also gave an assist on Sunday morning when officers attempted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle at Avenue I and 22nd Street West. It was around 2:00 a.m. and as officers approached the vehicle – they realized it was reported stolen, and the vehicle fled.
The Air Support Unit took over following the vehicle to Vancouver Avenue South and 18th Street West where the vehicle was abandoned, and the suspects took off on foot however the ASU were able to direct officers to their location.
A 27-year-old man has been charged with possession of stolen property, possession of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance. A 23-year-old woman has been charged with evading police, dangerous driving, and possession of stolen property.
