The provincial NDP are ridiculing Premier Scott Moe for allegedly appointing a close friend to Tire Stewardship of Saskatchewan. The NDP has released documents that show Richard “Porky” Porter is a financial supporter of the Sask Party and the Premier, as well as a board member with TSS, despite the Premier previously claiming that he has no influence over the agency.

Opposition Ethics Critic Meara Conway says “It’s simply misleading for Moe to deny any sway over this agency while his close friend and supporter is essentially running the show.”

Porter was appointed as chair of the Advisory Committee conducting the Saskatchewan Scrap Tire Program Review in January of 2017 by then Environment Minister Moe. That program led to the creation of the Tire Stewardship agency. Later that year, Porter was appointed as an “independent member-at-large” on the Tire Stewardship board, and he continues to hold that position today.

The NDP news release states that Porter has donated $1,000 to Moe’s personal campaign to become leader of the Sask Party and another $6,765 to the party itself since 2016.
