The new Chief of the Saskatoon Fire Department is Doug Wegren. The current Assistant Chief assumes the role Thursday, replacing Morgan Hackl, who retired in March after 36 years with the Department.
City Manager, Jeff Jorgenson describes Wegren as a strong and collaborative leader who has built close ties with the Saskatoon community in his 25 years with the Fire Department. He began his career with the Fire Department as a Firefighter and EMT in 1992 and progressed through the ranks. Jorgenson says he played an active role in the City’s emergency COVID response, and he participated in the City of Saskatoon’s Emergency Command Centre and Emergency Management Operations planning section among others.
Wegren ways, “As the new Fire Chief, I am committed to working collaboratively with our partners and all orders of government to meet the evolving needs of our community.”
