Craik RCMP is warning the public of fraudulent telephone calls that claim to originate from the RCMP.

Officers say a Craik resident received a suspicious phone call that appeared to come from an RCMP Headquarters phone number beginning with the area code 613. The caller wrongfully addressed himself as an RCMP officer and asked the receiver of the call to purchase and send gift cards to him.

Craik RCMP says this call was not from them, and if you receive such a call, hang up immediately and contact your local police at 310-RCMP. You can also report the scam call to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
